Sustainable Fact-checking
Many fact-checking platforms cannot sustain themselves on professional labor alone. We studied a crowdsourced fact-checking community on Reddit to learn what claims the crowd wants checked and how crowds and professionals divide the work, and found that verifying a claim took about a week on average.
Looking for faster, low-resource models, we studied fact-checking in Bangladesh, India and Nepal, where limited press freedom, access to data and infrastructure create challenges that fact-checkers in wealthier countries rarely face.
